What is your personal definition of “doula”?

You know your blueprint, you are the teacher. I am simply your facilitator, doula, companion for and to you. I understand birth and postpartum as a rite of passage, an expansion and calling into the deeper parts of you– the path of parenthood. My goal is to create ease, and meet you where you are at. You are always welcome to share or ask anything. I’m here to help you navigate the uncharted waters of fertility, pregnancy, birth, postpartum, women’s health issues.

What brought you to birth and postpartum work?

My journey into women’s reproductive, maternal, child, sexual health began at an early age. Always one to find joy and love in volunteering and helping others. I have worked with Plan Canada, Because I am a Girl on the Maternal Newborn HealthCare Advocate Program, which fell under the Change the Birth story initiative and as an advocate with Canadian Centre for Gender + Sexual Diversity. These experiences led me to begin understanding some of the pain, stories, and experiences women have and continue to face.

For the last four years, I have served babies, women and families as a postpartum and birth doula. It is in my nature to nurture and make families feel supported through the deeply spiritual and transformative experience of birth and rebirth. Walking with you through holistic healing practices and traditions when it comes to fertility, pregnancy, postpartum, and early childhood. Rooted in ancestral wisdom, and the exploration of self.

In a climate of caregiver burnout, how are you caring for yourself?

Boundaries are critical, and my goal is to be mindful of what my body is capable of doing. Being outdoors, spending time with loved ones, and nourishing my body with whole foods, movement, and bodywork is how I enjoy caring for myself and staying on top of my health and wellness.

Testimonials

Monisha is a very warm-hearted and exceptional doula. Her calming energy is contagious. From the first time she cared for our baby overnight, I felt at ease, and I learned quite a bit about how to tend to my newborn’s needs and cues, let alone ways to console him. We are so grateful to have her support and trust, you will find the same! —  Ashley S

I highly recommend Monisha to parents and could not shout her name louder from the rooftops! Having to invite someone new into your home during the transitional Fourth Trimester (and amid the pandemic) can be a nerve-wracking process for parents, but Monisha completely put our minds at ease as soon as she stepped through the doors. Monisha has a very gentle and compassionate spirit, so I never have to worry knowing my child is in loving hands. What our family also especially appreciates is her flexibility and respect for various parenting methods, as Monisha always ensures parents are comfortable and on the same page with caregiving practices. She has been so helpful in creating a more calm environment and alleviating stress for our family. She’s an absolute gem for postpartum families! —  Vivian T

We were so appreciative of Monisha as we brought our little one into the world, from labour and delivery to navigating the postpartum world, she was a constant source of knowledge with a kind and calming presence. She was always accessible by text or a call if we had any questions, and she was always on time and ready to jump in and help however she was needed. The wisdom and her presence that she provided us with was invaluable. We’d definitely recommend Monisha and would certainly have her as an integral part of our birth & postpartum team again! —  Aman S

I fell asleep like a baby after Monisha left! I’m not sure if that was intended… but the bodywork was so peaceful and relaxing!!! My pain improved and I went to the Aquarium today to meet another mom to be.. was okay walking and standing!! So thank you so much!!! —  Meghan

I was referred to Monisha by a practitioner I had worked with, and she has been treating me throughout my second pregnancy. I decided to invest in myself and my health and I credit Monisha’s experience with this being a straightforward and comfortable pregnancy. She has been able to help me address any ache or pain and I come out of our session feeling like a brand-new person. I firmly believe that I’ve felt as good as I have these last few months due to her knowledge and expertise, and I feel like I am mentally and physically in a better place for delivery. I can’t wait until I can come back postpartum, and she can help get me back to a new normal. Do yourself a favour and see Monisha for all pregnancy, birth, and postpartum bodywork support, you will not regret it! — Rupali
