What is your personal definition of “doula”?

A doula is a supporter and nurturer. Postpartum doulas provide non-judgmental support to new parents as they transition into life with a new baby. They are respectful of each individual family’s values and goals to ensure the family’s transition is smooth and all family members are well cared for.

What brought you to birth and postpartum work?

I worked as an early childhood educator and as a nanny for 15 years, and it wasn’t until I had my first daughter in 2015 that I realized how fascinating the postpartum world is. I fell in love with the euphoric connection with my baby, nursing, and even found sleep struggles and understanding biological norms for babies so captivating. From then on, I have solely dedicated my time to supporting young families with newborns. This is absolutely where my heart lies.

In a climate of caregiver burnout, how are you caring for yourself?

My world definitely has a focus on taking care of others, including when at home and caring for my own young children. I absolutely need to make time for myself. Whether it’s a walk, watching a movie snuggling in bed, going to dinner, or hanging with my sister, these are all so important to sustain my ambition for what I do.

What is a standout book, movie/tv, etc about the childbearing/parenting journey that you return to?
BOOK
  • Parenting From the Inside Out by Daniel Seigel
    • I find it super important and relate to it so much in my current life, raising 2 young daughters. We get so caught up in life and really need to reflect more and speak about our emotions. Not just for us, but for our children, their emotional development, and also to build a long-lasting, healthy relationship with them.

FOR YOUR PERSONAL LEARNING, WHAT IS THE WORKSHOP/TRAINING ON YOUR RADAR?

I am looking to take a postpartum nutrition course to better support clients with recovery food. I’m also interested in more lactation training to become a lactation counselor and eventually taking the IBCLC exam.

Testimonials

I highly recommend Stacey as a doula. She has been helping my family during the first weeks of my daughter’s birth by taking care of our baby overnight as well as during the day. Stacey is knowledgeable and generously shares very useful information about nursing, caring for a newborn, sleep and postpartum. She supports parents in a very caring way and is a great listener. In addition to her knowledge and experience, her comforting smile (under the mask that she carefully wears her whole stay) and positive attitude are uplifting in a time that is not always easy! She knows her way around babies and we could tell she was very experienced with newborns. We trusted her with our baby right away. She carefully prepared for our first overnight ahead of time by scheduling a video call to know her way around the nursery and save us some sleep time, which was so thoughtful. She has always been ready to help support parents and the family in any way, and she is very encouraging. I cannot recommend her more! Thank you Stacey! —  Roya

Both of my Brood doulas were amazing. I had Maya for my birth and Stacey for my postpartum. Both were super kind, caring, and extremely helpful. Not sure how I would have gotten through the birth or the postpartum period without them. The Brood folks made booking my doulas very easy and straightforward. Overall I would highly recommend Brood! —  Julie

We used Stacey for overnight doula support when our son was born. We absolutely loved her! From day one, she was highly professional, well-organized and genuinely cared about helping us. When our baby arrived 2 weeks earlier than planned she went out of her way to accommodate us which took so much of our stress away. She was always on time, proactively provided information and support in areas where we were struggling, shared her knowledge, and treated our house as her own. She worked collaboratively with us to try to improve our son’s sleep and always had great suggestions for things we could do as well. Stacey is personable, caring, helpful, and our son took to her right away. We always felt completely comfortable entrusting our precious bundle to her and would wholeheartedly recommend and also use her again. — Hurriya B.

Stacey helped us survive early postpartum with twins. She is knowledgeable, intuitive and kind. She gave us the priceless gift of uninterrupted sleep ! — Lindsay B.
