What is your personal definition of “doula”?
A doula works with you to explore what safety in the birth and perinatal space means for you. We advocate for you and support you to feel heard, respected, and prioritized. Our job is to help you get your needs met!
What brought you to birth and postpartum work?
My mom is a birth doula, and so talking about birth over dinner, or in the car…anywhere and everywhere… has always been commonplace in my family. I was even lucky enough to attend the births of my two younger brothers as a young child. So for me, birth has always felt like a normal part of life. I know that for many new parents though, the birth of their child might be the only birth they have ever been a part of. I am drawn to this work because I want to be there to support families to feel confident in their own skills and parenting journey, and to help to normalize the beauty, fluids, joy, and frustration of childbirth and early parenting.
In a climate of caregiver burnout, how are you caring for yourself?
I love to go for long hikes in the forest with my dog, take in as much sun as I can whenever I can, meditate, sleep in late, and belly laugh HARD with my loved ones.
What is a standout book, movie/tv, etc about the childbearing/parenting journey that you return to?

Testimonials
Hayaat was an absolutely exceptional doula. As first-time parents, she was a thoughtful and caring guide for us. We didn’t know what to expect going into hiring a doula, but she helped us feel more prepared for birth, she helped me cope with labor and she stayed with us for the whole birth experience. She was also great at reaching out postpartum and providing timely and really helpful advice. We weren’t looking for a doula with any specific focus areas, we just knew we wanted someone compassionate and respectful who could advocate for us in the hospital. We feel like we hit the jackpot because Hayaat went above and beyond everything, we could have asked for and we felt so comfortable in her presence. I can tell she loves helping families and babies and she is so good at fitting into what your family’s specific needs are. What I didn’t expect was how much she taught us over the time we worked with her and how she helped us by seeking out resources in our community to set us off on the right foot into parenthood! If we choose to have another baby we will 100% reach out to Hayaat again! — Marilyn & John
My husband and I decided to have a doula as it was our first baby and obviously just like all new parents we too had a lot of doubts and concerns about birth, breastfeeding, and everything else to be honest! Having Hayaat as our doula truly was a life savior! She was extremely supportive, we were in contact with her right from my early labor, and she stayed with us until I first breastfed my baby. She helped me fight every contraction with such ease, helping offer different techniques and tricks for coping. We received not only physical support but emotionally too she stood with us during this entire journey. Thanks a lot, Hayaat for making my first delivery so special and memorable. — Anjeli & Deval
Hayaat is a wonderful, friendly, and easy-going doula. Upon our introductory call, she was easy to talk to and we clicked right away. She asked thorough questions to understand us on a deeper level, so she could advocate for us at the time of birth and relay our birth plan to the doctors. She was reassuring and guided us through the whole process—even the calmness in her voice helped us feel at ease and relaxed. Things went very fast for me, and she was so very helpful in deciding when to go into the hospital! Hayaat followed up with us postpartum and provided us with much-needed helpful information relating to newborn babies. Thank-you Hayaat! — Katie & Leo
We were so lucky to have Hayaat as our Doula. Our prenatal conversations were incredibly thorough and helped me understand more about what my options would be during labor. At the hospital, she was the perfect extra set of hands, whether it was coaching me through labor and pushing or helping my partner be a better source of support. It is truly amazing how much she did for us and I particularly appreciated her helping us with a proper latching technique right away. We also loved having a third-party help us debrief the birth and check in two weeks afterward. When it comes to newborn care there is so much noise out there, so it was a huge relief to be able to field questions to someone we trusted. Thanks for helping us bring our son into the world! — Leah & Elias
Hayaat truly was a great support! From our first visit she made us feel at ease with her sense of humour and emphasis on evidence based information. She helped us find a balance between traditional birth methods and the more medicalized hospital approach and we landed on a water birth at the hospital! She held space for our post birth wishes during the ‘golden hour’ and kept our comfort in mind throughout the entirety of our birth experience. We feel grateful to have had such a competent and enthusiastic doula on our support team. Hayaat recognizes the magic and work of birth, and holds a brave and supportive space for parents. — Lynnea & Ken
