What is your personal definition of “doula”?
It’s many things to me; a support worker, a peer, a social justice advocate, a mediator, an educator, and the list goes on…
What brought you to birth and postpartum work?
My background is in front-line work within the nonprofit sector working with parents, infants, and children of all ages. I’m a parent of two and both my babies were born at home, assisted by a doula and Midwife team. This experience was amazingly transformative for me. However, after my first was born I found myself very isolated and likely suffered from undiagnosed postpartum depression. Because of this experience, I feel very strongly about helping families transition into their new dynamic with dignity and agency. As a postpartum doula, I bring a social justice model and an inclusive, non-judgemental lens. I support the family’s right to receive support that is non-biased and free of discrimination.
In a climate of caregiver burnout, how are you caring for yourself?
I ensure I eat well, stay hydrated, practice yoga and see a counselor. Also, having a lazy day here and there is a practice I highly recommend.

Testimonials
Lolo has been helping me out since my baby was 5 months old. I was so thankful and desperate to find her. The moment she met my baby, August, he instantly liked her. She is such a natural nurturing caregiver. It has allowed me to have breaks to get things done around the house and has immensely helped my mental health in feeling that much-needed support from her. —Laura
As a first-time parent, I am so grateful Lolo came into my life! She has been incredibly helpful in my transition back into work (from home), and my baby warmed to her immediately. She is validating, easy-going and supportive — the exact respite that new birthers need. — Kristi
