What is your personal definition of “doula”?
A doula is the helpful, steady sidekick that all people experiencing birth deserve. Someone who walks alongside you with compassion, practical support, deep listening, and advocacy—helping you feel informed, grounded, and not alone during one of life’s biggest transitions.
What brought you to birth and postpartum work?
My path to this work began with a desire to heal from a personally difficult birthing experience. That journey opened my eyes to the profound impact support—or the lack of it—can have during pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. I was drawn to this work so I could offer others the care, understanding, and presence I once needed myself.
In a climate of caregiver burnout, how are you caring for yourself?
Self-care for me looks like big doggie snuggles, forest bathing, crafting, and intentionally setting (and honouring) boundaries. I’m also lucky to have a wonderfully supportive partner—who is not above spraying me with a water bottle when I start to over-commit. It’s all about balance, humour, and remembering that caring for myself allows me to show up more fully for others.
What is a standout book, movie/tv, etc about the childbearing/parenting journey that you return to?

For your personal learning, what is the workshop/training on your radar?
Always more! I’m a devoted lifelong learner with aggressive curiosity and ADHD. I have curiosities about being A Death Doula, but I’ve also applied for my Master’s in Inclusive Education.

Tell us more about the ethos in your birth doula practice:
My ethos as a doula (and teacher and human…) is that community supports each other, laughter and forests heal, and no one should go through hard times alone. The weight of the world shouldn’t fall on the backs of women (or those under that massive umbrella), and yet, wow, do we hold power and potential to change things.
I believe attending births is the second most powerful experience, next to birthing itself, and I hold that role with deep respect. Every experience of bringing life into the world is unique, and if I’m in that orbit, I want to show up with care, dignity, responsibility, strength—and also silliness, pockets of candy and treats, and a very discreet poop-removal strategy.
Prenatal Care
- Free In-Person Foundations Visit → Once your contract is signed and your first-choice doula has been confirmed, your doula will visit your home for around 1+ hour so you can chat, connect, and ensure the fit feels right—for both of you!
- Personalized Prenatal Care → After we agree to work together, we’ll meet for 2 to 3 prenatal sessions—available in-person or virtually—to go over your hopes, plans, and any changes along the way. Our time together is open space for questions, wonderings, worries, and honest, collaborative conversation.
- Creating a Safe Support Relationship → We’ll establish clear boundaries and expectations for our work together, and build a shared understanding of what you want this journey to feel like. We’ll also talk through sensitivities, stop signs, and hard passes—anything from “no music” to “no essential oils” to “no visitors,” or anything else that helps you feel safe and respected.
- Flexible Meeting Style & Connection → Our prenatal chats can happen in whatever way feels comfortable and supportive. I love walking in the woods, floating in a pool, or sitting in a yard, living room, kitchen—wherever you feel most at ease. I’ve even walked aimlessly around Metrotown for hours with someone in early labour (and I’ve been that person too). I’m up for anything that feels safe, grounded, and aligned with your values.
- Brood’s Family Membership → Gain exclusive access to five online courses covering prenatal and newborn care, plus join our virtual private clubhouse and member area for downloadable resources.
- Postpartum Product Guide → A curated list of our top postpartum must-haves, based on what we see support families again and again.
Birth Attendance
- Continuous Care → I’ll be with you throughout early labour and delivery, offering steady support, comfort, and advocacy. I typically stay for up to two hours after birth (or until your family feels ready for private time and you’ve got your feet under you).
- Pain Relief & Comfort Measures → Hands-on support like counter-pressure, massage, breathwork, movement, position changes, grounding techniques, and whatever else helps your body feel more capable and less overwhelmed (including snacks, water reminders, and a well-timed joke if the vibe is right).
- Support for Birth Preferences → I’ll help ensure your birth preferences are communicated clearly to your care team and remind you of your options as decisions come up—so you feel informed, supported, and in the driver’s seat.
- Immediate Post-Birth Support → After baby arrives, I can support those first tender moments—helping with the first feed, latch support, bottle setup, and general settling-in, while also keeping the space calm and cared for.
- Optional Family Support → Depending on what your plan looks like, my support might also include stepping in to care for siblings or pets—dog walks, kid sleepovers, snacks, stories, and helping your household stay steady while you focus on birthing.
Postpartum Support
- Flexible, Whole-Family Postpartum Support → What do you need? My postpartum care can look like taking the trash out, walking the dog, wrangling siblings, helping with visitors/parents, or holding the baby so you can eat, shower, nap, or breathe.
- Practical Help & Errand Support → I can accompany you to appointments, grocery stores, hair salons… tattoo shops? I’m also happy to help with light tidying, folding laundry, thrift store runs, and generally making life feel a little more manageable.
- Healing, Safety & Comfort Care → My goal is to ensure healing is happening, baby is safe, questions are answered, and you feel supported and comfortable in whatever ways I can accommodate—physically, emotionally, and practically.
