FAQs

What is a Postpartum Doula?

A postpartum doula is a trained professional who supports families in the days and weeks after bringing home a new baby. Their role is to care for the whole family by offering guidance with newborn care, providing emotional support, and helping with everyday tasks like meals and light household needs. Unlike a nanny or night nurse, a postpartum doula’s focus is on nurturing, education, and easing the transition so parents can rest, recover, and feel confident as they adjust to life with their baby.

How do I know if I’ll want day shifts or overnight shifts with my postpartum doula?

This really depends on your unique needs, and many families choose a mix of daytime and overnight support. Factors like whether you’ll have a partner or community members at home, if you’re recovering from a cesarean birth or have mobility challenges, your confidence with baby care, and any history of postpartum anxiety or depression can all shape what kind of care feels right. If you’re unsure, we’re always happy to help you decide what will best support you.

How long do people normally book postpartum doula care for?

We’ve had families book anywhere from 1 shift to 6 months of full-time care! The length of your contract all depends on what works best for you and your budget*. There’s no minimum or maximum when it comes to booking care, although we do prioritise families who are in their first 3 months postpartum. If you’d like help deciding on how much care you may need, feel free to reach out and we’d be happy to share some insight!
