What is your personal definition of “doula”?
A doula is a person who accompanies those going through varied rites of passage that can span a lifetime; loss, birth, postpartum, and death. I believe doulas provide judgment-free, non-medical physical and emotional support through these tender, yet powerful times of transformation. They provide a grounding presence, specialized knowledge and wisdom, and an open heart, allowing space for families to orient themselves to this new version of themselves. They can be everything from a household cleaning wizard to a shoulder to cry (or laugh..or cry until you laugh) on. As a postpartum doula specifically, I believe in a family-led, doula-supported approach. I strive to center the family’s intuition and values in their journey and be present in a way that best serves each family.
What brought you to birth and postpartum work?
I have a 5-year-old and an almost 2-year-old. In my first pregnancy, I did a deep dive into everything related to pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. I found myself enamoured by the whole process, and felt that there was a certain lack of reverence for this almost other-worldly period of time. I want to bring that emphasis on the sacredness and significance in this phase of life, and as a postpartum doula, show the general community what care can look like for new families. This also led me to become a birth educator, licensed through My Powerful Birth.
In a climate of caregiver burnout, how are you caring for yourself?
I am very intentional about blocking time to be by myself. I’m the type of person who recharges my battery by having time on my own. I also love sitting in the sun or going for walks in the forest, and lifting heavy weights 2 or 3 times a week. I always go back to basics – making sure I’m hydrated, eating enough, and getting as much sleep as is possible with small children!

Tell us more about the ethos in your birth doula practice:
I’m here for you and your birth wishes, ensuring you feel prepared, informed, and confident. My approach is rooted in inclusivity, empowerment, and unwavering support. Advocacy is key—I’ll help you articulate your desires, navigate challenges, and ensure your voice is heard throughout your journey. I also believe in the power of community. Birth and parenthood are not meant to be experienced in isolation, so I’m here to connect you with resources, support networks, and other families who share your values and experiences. Together, we’ll build a foundation of support that extends well beyond the birthing room.
