What is your personal definition of “doula”?
To me, a doula is a steady, compassionate presence who provides knowledge, comfort, and advocacy for birthing parents. My role is to ensure that families feel supported, informed, and empowered during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. I believe in holistic and intuitive care, meeting families where they are with warmth and reassurance.
What brought you to birth and postpartum work?
My journey into doula work began with a deep appreciation for the strength and resilience of birthing parents. I have always been drawn to supporting others through life‘s pivotal moments, and birth is one of the most transformative experiences a person can go through. With my own two birth experiences, I felt very strong and empowered, but I was not properly supported. I realized how much more of a positive birthing experience I could’ve had if I had a doula with me. This realization made me want to dedicate myself to this work!
In a climate of caregiver burnout, how are you caring for yourself?
I prioritize self-care by staying connected to my community, spending time outdoors, and making time for rest. Whether through movement, nourishing food, or simply slowing down when needed, I make sure to take care of myself so I can be good at what I do.
What is a standout book, movie/tv, etc about the childbearing/parenting journey that you return to?
TV
- I love the beautiful storytelling of This Is Us — the series captured the parenting experience so authentically in all of its messy glory.
BOOKS
- The First Forty Days: The Essential Art of Nourishing the New Mother by Heng Ou was such an inspiring and empowering read. I love how it describes different postpartum practices around the world that honour birthing parents and encourage rest and nourishment in those precious weeks after your baby arrives.
- I’m currently reading Baby Catcher: Chronicles of a Modern Midwife by Peggy Vincent. The author herself has been hands-on with thousands of births, she writes in such a captivating and personal way.

Tell us more about the ethos in your birth doula practice:
My vision for my doula work is to empower parents to feel confident and positive for this pivotal, life-changing time in their lives. I believe at my core that a supported birth is a gift that has the potential to impact the rest of your life and by extension the rest of your child’s life. Birth is so beautiful and I hope that each family I help can look back on that day with joy. Support can and should look different for each individual. I aim to always meet you where you are and support you in the way that feels right for you.

Testimonials
I just want to start by saying Brood is hands down the most caring, knowledgeable, responsive, and trusting care agency that we have ever encountered. Tricia, in particular, brought such warmth, expertise, and presence to our experience. The personalized service she gave us—from in-person birth support to postpartum doula care—made every day of this process an absolute joy. Her knowledge and attention to every detail ensured our newborn was healthy, happy, and set up for the critical first few months of her life. We cannot say enough good things about the Brood staff. There is nothing more important than making sure a child is brought into this world safely and receives the best care for the gentle beginning of their life. We absolutely love the Brood family and are so very thankful that we found them and had the joyful experience they brought to this already joyful part of our lives. They enter your life seamlessly and curate each experience with your goals and wellbeing at the top of their list. Thank you, Brood—and thank you Tricia—for everything. You simply are the best. We take a bow to you — From everyone: Presthaya, Conrad, Baby Freya (& Mary).
Getting a postpartum doula for my firstborn was the best decision for my recovery and ease into the parenting experience. Tricia and I connected right away, she was so reassuring and nurturing. I struggled a bit with breastfeeding, so I was so thankful to receive some tips and tricks from Tricia that were a complete game changer for my nursing experience. I am forever grateful. After our time together, I felt that she “brought me back to life“ with her understanding, patient listening, validation, and lived experience advice for new baby care. Tricia was born to be a doula, it’s such a natural fit for her. I will be forever grateful for the time she spent with our family. — Francy D
My wife and I welcomed our first baby recently, and we are so grateful that we had Tricia as a Doula. We had so many questions throughout the pregnancy, Tricia was really there for us, navigating the upcoming birth of our child. We felt so reassured and supported. We had a dream of how we wanted the birth to go, and Tricia did everything she could to support that. We feel that we couldn’t have done it without her. — Hitesh A
