About

What languages do you speak?

English and French.

What is your personal definition of “doula”?

I always like to come back to the Greek meaning of the word — to serve. I am here to help you stay grounded so that each decision you make along the way helps lead you toward an empowering birth and parenthood experience.

What brought you to birth and postpartum work?

The births of my two children ignited a curiosity in me for the birth world. I felt that I couldn’t have done what I did in labor without the support of my doula. When my kids entered kindergarten I started to specialize in teaching pre and postnatal yoga, I thought about doula training but none of the programs seemed to be the right fit for me. It wasn’t until years later that I saw that my Doula was offering a 6-month mentorship program, I jumped at the chance to train in such an intimate setting. I found the process of becoming a doula so rewarding and I continue to be amazed at the epic journey that occurs from pregnancy into parenthood. I have been deeply humbled by being a parent and am always grateful for the challenges and lessons that have been presented to me. Reflecting on my parenting led me to become a certified parent coach through Connected Parenting. The postpartum journey never ends!

In a climate of caregiver burnout, how are you caring for yourself?

I love spending time in nature. Walking our dog Jasper always helps me reconnect with the present moment. I get to the ocean frequently because of him and I always try to breathe deeply and use it as a chance to recharge.

What is a standout book, movie/tv, etc about the childbearing/parenting journey that you return to?

Tell us more about the ethos in your birth doula practice:

Our bodies are blueprinted to go through the process of labouring and birthing a baby. If you didn’t read any books before your labour, your body would still know what to do. We will explore the mind-body connection so that you feel mentally prepared to encounter the epic journey of labour. I will be there to listen if any fears or concerns come up for you as you prepare to meet your baby. Getting aquatinted with your fears ahead of time will help to change your relationship with them. We can’t predict how your labour will unfold but if the fears surface during labour then it will be like walking towards an old friend as opposed to suddenly bumping into a stranger.

Do you have a preferred location where you typically support births?

I like to find out where you imagine feeling safest and we go from there. If you are undecided then we can look at the options together. Feeling confident in your place of birth as well as who you want surrounding you are the foundations of a positive birthing experience.

Testimonials

Camille is a gem! She was the doula for the birth of our daughter. She was a wonderful support before, during, and after the birth. During my labor, she was there the whole time with two trips to the hospital. What a caring and serene presence helping to keep me and my husband calm, especially in the intense moments. It was also great to have her follow-up care during the postpartum time. — Tanyss

I appreciated the meetings leading up to the birth where Camille educated me on diastasis recti, and the exercises to do to help avoid it. I appreciated the abundance of resources she showed me, especially when we discussed my previous birthing experiences, analyzed my thoughts on birth, and helped my mind prepare for birth with the prenatal writing exercise. Her presence at the birth was beneficial for keeping a calm space. I enjoyed our meetings after Jonah’s birth. The massage was exactly what I needed at the time. Besides the massage, just the time together was welcome, as the early days can feel a little isolating. I think her support and take on experiences would be helpful for life’s other big experiences as well. In short, more people should benefit from how wonderful you are! — Ursula

I felt very well supported by the way Camille communicated with us before and after the birth. When we met in person she was always a good listener, she also helped my husband and I to communicate with each other about our concerns/expectations/feelings, which was valuable. I liked how she made sure to check in with us now and then by email/text, offering information, resources, and encouragement based on concerns we had mentioned at our in-person meetings. When the labor started, I was grateful to be able to call and email — both to ask questions and just to keep her posted on how things were progressing. Camille was very responsive and I felt reassured by our communication at this time. We were grateful to be able to call her over when my labor was becoming more intense. Knowing that she was on her way gave us peace of mind. I felt very supported when she arrived at our apartment. Camille took an active role in the process, offering suggestions for positions and providing physical support. The way she mediated our communication with the midwife at this stage was especially helpful. I was also very grateful for the emotional support she offered at moments when I felt discouraged, such as after our first conversation with the midwife. I felt that she heard and acknowledged my feelings at that moment which helped me to move forward. At the birth center, I appreciated her calm demeanour, gentle encouragement, and reassurance that things were progressing well. After the birth, I appreciated the opportunity to “debrief” with her and our midwifery student as I was still processing the experience. We felt that you were there for us if we ever needed more help. — Dana

I felt listened to and understood during the prenatal time. Camille was such a great communicator and picked up on what we wanted to get out of our relationship with her. I also liked that she thought to include touch in the prenatal visit. The birth happened very quickly and she saw that we were coping well, just us, so she was able to take a step back and let things unfold. For the actual day of the birth, it was really valuable to have someone else observe and document the day. We loved having the photos and Ezri’s birth story from her perspective written to him. Such a special keepsake! — Nikki
