What is your personal definition of “doula”?

To me, being a doula means weaving my training and support skills into each family’s lives in a way that brings flow, trust, holistic care, and connection. I aim to meet the family where they are in their pregnancy, birth, or postpartum journey and ensure they are being cared for in a way that best suits their values and needs. Overall, it is my goal to make sure that the families I work with are getting the rest, care & community support required during this special & important time.

What brought you to birth and postpartum work?

My mom had PPD with my brother, and hearing her story shone a light on the importance of supporting new and expecting families. Once I began seeking out and listening to other people’s birth stories, and attending births as a doula, I witnessed firsthand both the deep beauty and variety of challenges that come with this powerfully transitional time. It truly does take a village and I’m happy to be a part of it.

In a climate of caregiver burnout, how are you caring for yourself?

I love to write, create art and play piano. I drink plenty of water; prioritize sleep: take rejuvenating walks in the forest; eat well; and am proactively discerning of whom I choose to cultivate relationships within my personal life.

Testimonials

We received care from Terri Lynn throughout the first month of postpartum. She was super helpful, knowledgeable, patient, and caring, supporting us through the toughest times. Lizzy was also excellent in coordinating all the schedule changes to help us get the support when we needed it the most. I highly recommend Brood for postpartum care to any parents! — Allen C

This was our second time using Brood, and once again it was such a wonderful experience. Our postpartum doulas, Emma and Terri Lynn, made such a difference during those early weeks with our baby. Every night they arrived, I felt an immediate sense of relief knowing our baby was in safe, caring hands. They were incredibly supportive of my breastfeeding journey while also gently encouraging me to prioritize rest as much as possible. Whether it was bringing me snacks during feeds, helping soothe the baby, or simply being a compassionate ear during such an overwhelming and exhausting time, I felt deeply cared for and supported. I truly can’t recommend this level of care enough, especially for anyone without a lot of family or support nearby. Those first weeks and months postpartum can be some of the most challenging and vulnerable times a person experiences. Having this kind of support is an investment in yourself, your recovery, and your family — and it made all the difference for us. — SR

We are using Brood Care for overnight support, and it has been game-changing for our family. All the support is so professional and tailored to our needs. Our family is actually getting rest in the newborn phase so we can enjoy life. Would highly recommend Terri Lynn! — Stephanie C

I just want to start by saying Brood is hands down the most caring, knowledgeable, responsive, and trusting care agency that we have ever encountered. Terri Lynn, in particular, brought such warmth, expertise, and presence to our experience. The personalized service she gave us—from in-person birth support to postpartum doula care—made every day of this process an absolute joy. Her knowledge and attention to every detail ensured our newborn was healthy, happy, and set up for the critical first few months of her life. We cannot say enough good things about the Brood staff. There is nothing more important than making sure a child is brought into this world safely and receives the best care for the gentle beginning of their life. We absolutely love the Brood family and are so very thankful that we found them and had the joyful experience they brought to this already joyful part of our lives. They enter your life seamlessly and curate each experience with your goals and well-being at the top of their list. Thank you, Brood—and thank you, Terri Lynn—for everything. You simply are the best. We take a bow to you — From everyone: Presthaya, Conrad, Baby Freya (& Mary).

We had the support of Brood for their postpartum services and I couldn’t recommend them enough. From the initial intake through the birth of our premature twins, the team was an incredible source of both emotional and physical support. Their care and empathy during such a vulnerable time meant so much to us. All of the doulas we worked with were wonderful, helping us rest without worry while also sharing thoughtful tips from their experience. I especially want to thank Terri Lynn, who is absolutely incredible. She is kind, calming, deeply knowledgeable, and professional. Terri Lynn supported us in showing up as our best selves and was always there to talk through challenges with patience and care. I’d recommend Brood to anyone! Their support truly makes a difference. — Tonya P

The whole Brood team was amazing right from the start. Emma is such a pleasure and was super helpful in getting everything planned and scheduled. We also had Doula’s Stacey, Terri-Lynn and Kristy- I can’t say enough great things about them! We were always to excited for them to arrive. They are truly incredible people and so very dedicated to their work. — Annie C-H

I will always be grateful for Terri Lynn’s warm and compassionate nighttime postpartum care. She not only allowed us to get more sleep but also helped us better understand our baby. She went above and beyond to look after me when I had some health complications, kindly bringing healing soup. Terri Lynn’s calm and gentle presence was a true gift during such a special yet vulnerable time. — Ali

As first-time parents with families overseas, my husband and I were looking for additional support for our hospital birth and postpartum. Terri was wonderful in every way. From answering our questions, sharing resources, clearing my doubts and fears, and being my go-to person even if I just needed to vent during the third trimester, she was always prompt and helpful. But most importantly, she was very present and hands-on during the extremely intense labor I experienced. Terri guided me through multiple pain coping methods in addition to offering Reiki during labour which allowed me to stick to my no pain medication goal and birth a beautiful baby boy. Her postpartum visits were much much-needed break for me and my husband. My little one loved being in her warm and peaceful presence and was just so calm. If you’re looking for a resourceful, kind, and compassionate doula – Terri is someone to reach out to! — Anjilin

Terri Lynn was our birth doula for our daughter’s hospital birth and she was incredible. She supported my partner and me at our home when I was in early labor and stayed by our side until a couple of hours after our daughter was born. Her presence made both of us feel calm, safe, and confident during an otherwise wild and intense experience. She is highly intuitive and knew when to be hands-on and when I needed space and she seemed to know instinctively when my partner and I needed time alone together, and when he needed a break to sleep. She helped me to stay focused and in my body when things got intense, and she created a calm and protective space for me to feel safe enough to labor and birth in. Terri Lynn is professional, gentle, knowledgable, and kind and I highly recommend her as Doula. — Lyndsey
