Honouring Our Doulas This Holiday Season: A Celebration of Care and Connection

by | Dec 18, 2024

At Brood, we know our doulas are the beating heart of our work. Day in and day out, they offer families a lifeline of support—through pregnancies, births, and those precious, transformative first months of parenthood. They do so much more than just “show up”; they provide revolutionary, life-sustaining care that shapes society from the ground up. This holiday season, we’re taking time to honor our doula team with a series of community-partnered wellness sessions and thoughtfully curated gift bags filled with nourishing essentials. This is our way of cherishing and celebrating each of them for the profound impact they have on families and our world.

Our first holiday session was led by Janet Kimmel from Align Method – Janet brings a unique approach to movement and physical confidence, drawing on her own experiences with endometriosis, back surgery, and her journey of pregnancy and postpartum. She deeply understands the physical and emotional challenges that can come after surgery, injury, or pregnancy, and she has dedicated her practice to helping folks regain their sense of freedom and resilience.

We’re also thrilled to have offered our team a restorative session with Darcy and her team at Poke Community Acupuncture. Poke has a mission to keep acupuncture accessible and affordable for all (40$ – 70$ sessions ya’ll!), which aligns beautifully with Brood’s values of inclusivity and community-centred care. Their motto, “Get Poked. Feel Better,” says it all: these sessions are about helping our doulas slow down, tune in, and receive the restful, healing support they deserve.

Our curated gifts featured thoughtful, high-quality items from brands we admire, each chosen to nurture our doulas’ health, comfort, and sense of well-being.

  • Femme Flexor: Dedicated to pelvic health and designed to empower individuals to engage with their bodies confidently and comfortably, Femme Flexor offers tools to support strength, recovery, and wellness for people at all stages of life.

  • Nala: Nala’s skincare line is “free-from” the harmful ingredients commonly found in the beauty industry. With a dedication to deep self-care, Nala products support a healthier, more natural approach to skincare.

  • Long Spell Herbs: Crafted by clinical energetic herbalist Gina Badger, Long Spell Herbs helps individuals attune to their bodies while connecting to the earth’s ecology. We’re including a nurturing tincture specifically designed to support the needs of care workers!
  • Bird&Be Supplements: Designed with reproductive health in mind, Bird&Be offers science-backed, personalized supplement solutions to support fertility, pregnancy, and postpartum wellness.

  • Joni: Joni’s sustainable, organic pads are designed with both comfort and the planet in mind, providing accessible and eco-friendly menstrual care for all.

Our doulas are tireless in their dedication to Brood’s families as well as their own. They’re true change-makers, laying the foundation for a more compassionate world with each family they support. By offering these sessions and gifts, we want to honor the resilience, compassion, and tireless dedication of our doulas. Each of our partners shares Brood’s values of accessibility, authenticity, and empowerment—whether it’s a restorative session or a thoughtful product, each gift has been selected with our team’s needs at heart.

As a care worker myself, I know how critical it is to find connection, rest, and true nourishment in this intimate work. Companies like Align Method, Poke, Bird&Be, Joni, Femme Flexor, Nala, and Long Spell Herbs have provided these essentials for me over the years, and are one of the ways I’ve been supported in my journey toward a sustainable, long-lasting career in care work. Feeling seen and cared for in this line of work fuels my dedication—and it’s one of the many reasons I am so thrilled to share these incredible brands with our Brood family!

This holiday season, we’re proud to celebrate, uplift, and show our deepest appreciation for our incredible care team. Thank you for all you do, Brood doulas!
