What is your personal definition of “doula”?
I am there to support the family so they can focus on their new relationship. I am an extra pair of hands, someone to discuss questions with, mind other children or help with other duties so that parent(s) and baby can bond, rest and heal.
What brought you to birth and postpartum work?
I’ve always been a helper and found value and comfort in being a support. Through my previous caregiving work as a nanny of a newborn family from overseas, I saw firsthand how much that type of support, time, listening and holding space can mean to a family in the postpartum space. Often these needs are undervalued and I want to be part of the shift in mindset to see the postpartum period as what it is, beautiful, transformative, difficult, joyful and life-changing.
In a climate of caregiver burnout, how are you caring for yourself?
I have a lot of capacity but my burnout tends to be from nervous system overwhelm. I take time to have quiet (no headphones on walks!), keep lights low in my own home and take time early in the morning to pursue my artistic practice when I can be alone and focused. I prioritize alone time when I feel I need it.

Testimonials
We had the most wonderful experience working with Brood Care’s Postpartum Doulas. As first-time parents, bringing our little one home felt overwhelming—the days when we had care made all the difference to our strong start. I enjoyed the process of meeting our doulas in advance and sharing what was most important to us and our style. We found a wonderful daytime routine with Caitlin, and highly recommend her. I learned so much in the early days from the conversations we had while I was caring for our baby. As someone who was concerned about my mental health after giving birth, it felt like Brood was an extension of my team and community, making sure I was looked after during such a vulnerable time. — Michelle M
Caitlin was such an incredible support for our family. She has a remarkable ability to integrate herself seamlessly into our family. I appreciated her calm energy and her willingness to help in any way possible. We were so lucky to have her. — Alycia H
Caitlin is such a safe pair of hands and someone you can fully trust. Caitlin is a calm, thoughtful and kind doula who fits in well with any household. Her quiet presence is reassuring as she helps with the baby, older siblings and household chores. Caitlin’s amazing knowledge of breastfeeding has also been so helpful! I recommend Caitlin as a doula to any mother. — Victoria M
I can’t say enough good things about Caitlin’s work with our family as a postpartum doula! I had a challenging recovery from labour (c-section) and Caitlin’s nourishing and healthy meals were an important part of my recovery. I also had many difficulties with breastfeeding in the early days, and Caitlin was a beacon of wisdom during those trying times. She gave me many strategies for coping with mastitis, plugged ducts and a bad latch and helped my son and I reach the fantastic breastfeeding relationship we have today! I couldn’t have done it without her! Most importantly, she is excellent at intuiting your needs as a new mom, which is crucial when you are operating on almost no sleep and coping with the frazzled wonder of a newborn. Her grace, humour, intellect and helping hands were a major part of our successful transition into parenthood. We will be hiring Caitlin again if we add any further members to our little family! — Naomi M
Caitlin was so helpful! Having her around allowed me to breathe easier so that I could focus on what was important. She’s so easy to talk to and was kind and attentive with my preschooler. It was reassuring to have someone calm and knowledgeable around to chat with about any worries or questions I had. — Paula P
