What is your personal definition of “doula”?

To me, a doula is someone who walks alongside families with presence, compassion, and respect. It’s about listening, offering emotional and physical support, and helping people feel safe, informed, and empowered during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum — whatever that journey looks like.

What brought you to birth and postpartum work?

My connection to birth began while I was in University for Nursing back in Brazil, when I attended and caught my first baby. That experience was deeply moving and changed the way I understood care, presence, and trust. From that moment on, I knew I wanted to work in this area! Supporting families during such an intimate and transformative time, and helping them feel held and confident, is what continues to guide my work today.

In a climate of caregiver burnout, how are you caring for yourself?

I care for myself by prioritizing rest and staying connected to my friends and family — the people who support me. I love spending time outdoors, but I also value cozy nights watching a good movie or TV show. I’m intentional about making space to recharge, knowing that caring for myself is essential to caring well for others.

Tell us more about the ethos in your birth doula practice:

My practice centers on presence, respect, and empowerment. My goal is create a safe and non-judgmental space where families feel heard, informed, and supported in their choices, as I believe every birth is unique, and my role is to adapt to each family’s needs — so they can feel confident and grounded throughout their journey. What makes my approach unique is the combination of my clinical experience as an obstetric nurse and my dedication to nurturing the emotional and relational aspects of birth, ensuring families feel truly seen and supported.

Do you have a preferred location where you typically support births?

I’m comfortable supporting births in any setting the birthing person chooses — whether at home, in a birth center, or in a hospital. My focus is on being present and supportive wherever the family feels safest.

Prenatal Care
  • Free In-Person Foundations Visit → Once your contract is signed and your first-choice doula has been confirmed, your doula will visit your home for around 1+ hour so you can chat, connect, and ensure the fit feels right—for both of you!
  • Prenatal Visits → 2 or 3 visits (online or in-person) to prepare you and your support person, if applicable, for birth. These sessions include education on labour stages, coping techniques (breathing, movement, massage, positions), relaxation tools, and exercises that may help labour progress. We’ll also discuss your preferences and create a personalized birth and postpartum plan.

  • Calm Environment → I help maintain a safe, comfortable atmosphere, offering reminders to eat, drink, rest, move, and tune into your body.
  • Partner Guidance → Supporting your partner so they can be present, confident, and involved, while also making sure they have space to rest and care for themselves.
  • Advocacy & Communication → gently supporting you in communicating your needs and wishes with your care team.
  • Immediate Post-Birth Support → I remain with you until you and your baby are comfortable, your feeding journey is initiated, and your space feels settled.

  • Postpartum Visit → After your baby arrives, I’ll visit your family at home to check in on recovery and adjustment. This may include support with breastfeeding, newborn care (bathing, diapering, safe sleep, swaddling), emotional well-being, comfort measures for postpartum healing, and practical tips to help you rest and recover.

Testimonials

Luciana was by my side the day my daughter was born, and it changed the trajectory of the entire experience. Her energy is so calm and graceful that the newborn stage felt like a dreamworld on the nights she was there. She also taught me everything about breastfeeding, and I had a wonderful experience because of her guidance. Even though my daughter was asleep 95% of the time we spent together, her face lit up when she saw Luciana six months later – that says it all! To anyone considering hiring Luciana as a doula, the only thing you should know is that you will want her to stay forever. — Eleanor

Throughout my pregnancy, Luciana helped me make decisions, provided knowledge, and kept me informed and questioning about my rights and choices, giving me a strong sense of security and empowerment. When I went into labour, I felt completely secure knowing she would be by my side. She brought the best vibe, words, energy, touch, and care. With her knowledge and respect, she advocated for me when I couldn’t. She calmed my husband and brought him closer to the birthing experience with empathy and care. — Carla

She’s very kind, sweet, and attentive. She supported me during and after my pregnancy with affection and a wealth of information about my concerns. I’m grateful for her support. — Elizangela
