What is your personal definition of “doula”?
A doula is a steady, compassionate presence who supports families emotionally, physically, and informationally during the transformative journey of birth and postpartum. My role is to nurture, guide, and hold space so families feel confident, supported, and never alone.
What brought you to birth and postpartum work?
My path began in the NICU in South America, where I spent more than 10 years supporting newborns and families through vulnerable and life-changing moments. Over time, I realized my heart was deeply connected to caring for families beyond the hospital setting. Becoming a doula lets me offer compassionate, continuous support during the postpartum period, when families need grounding, reassurance, and gentle guidance.
In a climate of caregiver burnout, how are you caring for yourself?
I care for myself by staying close to the people I love. I enjoy simple, cozy nights at home watching movies with my family, playing board games, and sharing a delicious dinner together. I also find joy in crafting and creating with my hands — it helps me slow down, reconnect, and recharge.
A standout book I return to:
The Fourth Trimester by Kimberly Ann Johnson — a book that deeply shaped my understanding of postpartum care.
What’s on my learning radar:
Infant feeding support and lactation education

TESTIMONIALS
“Andrea supported me both physically and emotionally during my postpartum period. She guided me with breastfeeding, pumping, feeding positions, and understanding my baby’s cues. Her calm, warm, and reassuring presence helped me through moments when I felt overwhelmed. Her support was consistent, compassionate, and exactly what I needed. I would recommend her without hesitation.”
