What is your personal definition of “doula”?

A trained companion who provides emotional, informational, physical, and mental support to birthing people, while building relationships with expecting people/families to help them have a positive birth and postpartum experience. Our main goal is to provide care with our minds, hands, and hearts.

What brought you to birth and postpartum work?

I’ve always had a passion for caregiving, which started when I became an aunt at 8. By 13, I was a full-time babysitter for my nieces and nephews, and caring for children felt natural to me. Over the past 11 years, I’ve worked in various childcare roles, including respite care for children with disabilities, group work with the Canucks Autism Network, and nursery care in France. When I discovered Labor and Postpartum Doulas, I knew I’d found my calling. I’m now a certified Labor Doula, Postpartum Doula, and Perinatal Educator, excited to support families through positive birth and postpartum experiences!

In a climate of caregiver burnout, how are you caring for yourself?

Meditation, exercise, music, spa treatments, and personal time with my loved ones.

What is a standout book, movie/tv, etc about the childbearing/parenting journey that you return to?
