What is your personal definition of “doula”?
A doula is a person who provides care, support, and presence for another, offering guidance, reassurance, and practical assistance through significant life experiences.
What brought you to birth and postpartum work?
I had an amazing home birth experience and completely fell in love with the world of birth and postpartum care. That experience opened my eyes to the power of informed support, continuity of care, and the deep impact of feeling held during such a transformative time.
In a climate of caregiver burnout, how are you caring for yourself?
I lean on my doula friends—we create space for each other to vent, process, and reconnect. These gatherings are a vital part of my self-care, offering both solidarity and relief in a field that requires so much emotional and physical energy.
What is a standout book, movie/tv, etc about the childbearing/parenting journey that you return to?

While I bring extensive experience to the table, my approach is to guide parents in discovering their parenting style. I believe in fostering a supportive environment where families can feel confident in making informed decisions that resonate with their values and preferences. My role is to empower you, ensuring that you feel supported and understood throughout your birthing journey.

Testimonials
We had a really great experience with Brood. All of the doulas are lovely, friendly, caring, and helpful, and Brood was very accommodating of our scheduling needs—especially when we needed shifts switched or added. Our doula, Giulia, was amazing. She took charge of us in those first few weeks when everything was a blur, and this was exactly what we needed as first-time parents. We had a mix of nighttime and daytime care, and initially, the night shifts were essential. Having our doula there allowed my partner to get a full night’s rest, I was well supported overnight, and our baby was carefully watched and cared for. Eventually, as he started sleeping through the night, we changed to daytime shifts so we could run errands, attend appointments, or simply rest. We’re so grateful to have had the help. Thank you, Giulia!— Alaina O
I contacted Brood since my husband and I were expecting and travelling in uncharted territories. I knew we could master all the physical aspects of giving birth and taking care of the baby, but I felt that we needed that extra support when it came to taking care of ourselves as well. First, having a doula while giving birth is something I would recommend to anyone! And not just any doula, GIULIA!! Through the Brood Care matchmaking process, we saw a video of Giulia, and she just spoke to us. The calmness in her voice and the reassuring note in her statements were what we sought in our support system. We did not make a mistake. First, she accompanied us in this incredible story of bringing a new life to the world, by supporting me, helping me remember to breathe, and holding my hand in a manner that was not annoying at all, but comforting and reassuring. She was actively listening to me and turned out to be the best support at the most critical part of my labour and delivery process, by commanding the attention of the medical workers and advocating for my wellbeing. Postpartum care felt like my sister was there to give out neat tips and tricks. Giving us enough space to try and err, while gently guiding us was the best approach we could ask for, and we saw our baby thriving in it. And, as I mentioned, helping me remember that I still exist and not everything is as important as it is in my head which proved wonderful to make me feel like a human and remove that burden of mom’s guilt. Having this kind of safety cushion in your late pregnancy and throughout the process of giving birth and getting a hang of the baby’s needs lets you sleep at night knowing everything is going to be ok. And new mamas need their sleep! — Anonymous
Throughout my pregnancy, Giulia provided information that was fundamental to educating me and my husband about the process. As first-time parents, it was essential to prepare us for the labour and the postpartum, as well. Giulia’s empathy, knowledge and techniques applied were crucial to my comfort and empowerment during the birth. During the postpartum visit, Giulia assessed the breastfeeding, guided us through the first months, and helped us hands-on with our little one. Hiring Giulia as my doula was one of the best decisions I had towards my pregnancy, and fundamental to my mental and physical health. — Soraya
Working with Giulia as our doula was an absolute blessing during the birth of our first baby. From the moment we met her, Giulia’s warmth and knowledge reassured us that we were in capable hands. Our birth plan took unexpected turns with an early membrane rupture and a lengthy 55-hour labour, including LOTS of waiting before ultimately being induced. Giulia remained a constant pillar of support throughout, helping us navigate every challenge with grace and expertise. Her presence not only eased our anxieties but also empowered us to embrace the experience positively. Thanks to Giulia, we were able to cherish a birth journey that, despite its unpredictability, became an incredibly positive and enjoyable memory. We are deeply grateful for Giulia’s invaluable support and couldn’t recommend her more highly as a doula. — Anonymous
Guilia was excellent! The induction journey I went on took a full week, but she was there to coach me with advice and support the whole time. On delivery day, she was helpful without interfering with the midwife or eventual OB we needed. She is also a lovely person with a calming presence. Highly recommend! — Jessica
Giulia was amazing for our postpartum needs. I have 7-month-old twin girls and she helped to feed them, play with them, put them down for naps and generally just help me stay organized so I could have a few moments of “me” time. I never had to ask her to do anything, she always took the initiative and made sure everything was perfect. She was so caring and gentle with the girls, they loved her! She was also very flexible with scheduling which was so helpful. Highly recommend her!! — Anonymous
As first-time parents recovering from a c-section, we had it rough! Giulia was truly heaven-sent. She did everything and anything to help us settle into our new roles as parents. She has a calming presence that’s so nice to be around especially when things become a bit hectic with a newborn. We learned so much about baby care, breastfeeding and general postpartum general wellness. Don’t hesitate, Giulia is the best! — Nancy
Giulia came to us in an emergency and I couldn’t have been more grateful and satisfied with her support. We clicked right away, she was and still is very supportive and positive, and has a way with newborns that’s earned her the title of “baby whisperer” in my view. I’ve had the pleasure of working with Giulia twice now since my birth story wasn’t as expected. Even in between overnight support, she has reached out to check in on me and the baby. Giulia is the sweetest! You will not be disappointed with her by your side. Big thanks to you Giulia! — Sari
Our experience with Giulia as our doula has been nothing short of exceptional. Since we brought our newborn home, Giulia has been a pillar of strength and reassurance for my wife, guiding us through the challenging first two weeks with grace and understanding. Her attitude towards support is remarkable—she’s always been both proactive and reactive to our baby’s needs, making the transition to parenthood much smoother for us. Giulia’s knowledge and expertise in newborn care are evident in every interaction. She helped us navigate the overwhelming world of baby products, recommending essentials like the breast pump and play mats, which have become indispensable to us. What stood out most was her ability to explain complex topics in a way that was easy to understand, empowering us to feel more confident as new parents. Punctuality is another of Giulia’s strengths; she was incredibly on time for every visit, which was incredibly reassuring and allowed us to rely on her fully without any reservations. Through her dedication and genuine passion for her work, it’s clear that helping families during this significant life transition is not just a job for Giulia, but a calling. We are deeply grateful for her support and cannot recommend her highly enough to any new parents looking for a compassionate, knowledgeable, and reliable doula. — Anonymous

My experience with Giulia has been incredible! I don’t see myself going through this pregnancy without her support, as it has been essential in making me more confident about giving birth. She knows exactly how to give me the information I need to continue having a calm and peaceful experience. I feel very lucky to have her by my side during my pregnancy. I highly recommend her work, as in addition to having a lot of knowledge, she is patient, calm, and friendly, and I can say that she certainly makes all the difference in this very important moment!
